Choosing an Egg Donor
We recognize that the decision to grow your family with the help of an egg donor is an emotional journey as well as a medical one. At NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York, we’re here to support our patients fully and maintain the highest level of discretion. Our care team is here to assist patients with the selection of the right egg donor for their family.
In a frozen egg donation cycle, our patients are able to choose from pre-screened, approved egg donors. Thawed eggs are then fertilized with sperm from the intended parent or sperm donor. Frozen eggs are currently available and there is no scheduling or stimulation risk for recipients. Current data indicates pregnancy rates using frozen donor eggs are comparable to a fresh egg donor cycle. Our care team will work with you to identify the best fit with your family.
Benefits of Frozen Eggs
Patients electing to use frozen donor eggs are able to choose from hundreds of donors who have already undergone the ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval process. You may select frozen donor eggs from one of our partner egg bank networks. Your care team will assist you in choosing the resource that is best for you.
Once an egg donor has been selected, you will receive 6-8 frozen eggs to be combined with sperm to create embryos. Because you do not need to be synchronized with your egg donor, you can start a frozen donor egg cycle right away. This provides patients more flexibility when planning their cycle. A frozen donor egg cycle can typically be completed, with patients proceeding to an embryo transfer within 6 to 8 weeks.
